Society of Friends
The Society of Friends, commonly known as Quakers, is a religious group founded in the 17th century that emphasizes direct experience of God rather than formal rituals. Quakers practice silent worship, during which participants sit together in quiet reflection. They advocate for peace, social justice, and equality, often expressing their beliefs through activism. Quakers historically opposed war and slavery and have been involved in various humanitarian efforts. Their spiritual beliefs include the “Inner Light,” the idea that everyone has a divine presence within them. Quaker meetings often conclude with sharing insights and supporting one another in their spiritual journeys.
