SMS Emden
SMS Emden was a German light cruiser ship active during World War I, known for its successful raiding operations in the Indian Ocean. It was built for fast, stealthy attacks on Allied merchant ships and merchant convoys, disrupting supply lines. Commanded by Captain Karl von Müllenheim-Rechberg, the Emden gained a reputation for bold tactics and daring engagements. Its most famous action was the attack on the Russian port of Penang. After several months of commerce raiding, the Emden was ultimately sunk by Australian forces in 1914. Its legacy highlights German naval strategy aimed at economic disruption rather than traditional fleet battles.
