Smok Wawelski
Smok Wawelski is a legendary Polish dragon from Kraków's folklore. According to the story, the dragon lived near Wawel Hill and terrorized the region. A clever young man named Krakus and later a tailor named Szewczyk Dratewka devised clever plans to defeat it—most famously, feeding it a sack of sulfur, ash, and other flammable materials, causing it to drink and then burst. The myth symbolizes courage and wit in overcoming threats and is a cherished part of Kraków’s cultural heritage. Today, the Wawel Dragon remains an iconic symbol, celebrated with a statue and folklore stories.
