Smilodon

Smilodon, commonly known as the saber-toothed cat, was a prehistoric predator that lived during the Pleistocene epoch, around 2.5 million to 10,000 years ago. Characterized by its long, curved canine teeth, which could reach up to 8 inches in length, Smilodon was a formidable hunter, primarily preying on large herbivores like bison and mammoths. Its robust build and powerful muscles suggest it was well-adapted for short bursts of strength in hunting, rather than long-distance chasing. Fossils have been found in North America and South America, highlighting its wide range during the Ice Age.
