Single-Loop vs Double-Loop
Single-loop learning involves detecting and correcting errors within existing goals or strategies—think of it as fixing a mistake without questioning the overall approach. Double-loop learning, on the other hand, questions and modifies the underlying assumptions, values, or objectives that guide actions. It’s like not only fixing a problem but also re-examining whether the problem itself needs a different solution or perspective. Essentially, single-loop is about “doing things right,” while double-loop is about “doing the right things” by challenging and updating the foundational beliefs.
