Simplified Chinese characters

Simplified Chinese characters are a streamlined version of traditional Chinese writing, created to make learning and writing easier. They use fewer strokes and simplified forms of complex characters, helping improve literacy and efficiency. Developed mainly in Mainland China in the 20th century, these characters retain the original meanings but are quicker to write and recognize. While simplified characters are widely used in Mainland China and Singapore, traditional characters are still used in places like Hong Kong, Taiwan, and among some overseas communities. The change balances between preserving cultural heritage and promoting ease of access to written Chinese.
