Simon Fraser was a Scottish explorer and fur trader known for his significant contributions to the exploration of western Canada in the early 19th century. Born in 1776, he is best known for navigating the Fraser River in 1808, which became a vital route for trade and settlement. His expeditions helped map the region and established important connections between Indigenous peoples and European settlers. Fraser’s work laid the groundwork for future exploration and development in British Columbia, making him a key figure in Canadian history and its fur trade industry. He died in 1862.
