Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF)

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is a topical liquid used to treat tooth decay. It contains two main ingredients: silver, which kills bacteria, and fluoride, which helps strengthen tooth enamel. When applied to a cavity or decayed area, SDF stops the decay from progressing and can even help repair the tooth. It is quick, minimally invasive, and often used for patients who have difficulty with traditional drilling or in cases of sensitive teeth. While it effectively arrests decay, it can temporarily stain the decayed areas black, which is an accepted aesthetic outcome.
