Silicon-Based MEMS
Silicon-based MEMS (Micro-Electro-Mechanical Systems) are tiny devices made from silicon, the same material used in computer chips. They integrate tiny mechanical parts, sensors, and electronic circuits on a single chip, allowing them to detect, measure, and respond to physical vibrations, pressure, or motion. Because silicon is durable, precise, and well-understood, MEMS devices are used in many applications like smartphones (accelerometers and gyroscopes), automotive sensors, medical instruments, and industrial equipment. They offer small size, low power consumption, and high reliability, making them essential components in modern technology.
