Siege of Lilybaeum

The Siege of Lilybaeum (241-241 BC) was a pivotal conflict during the First Punic War between Rome and Carthage. Located on the western tip of Sicily, Lilybaeum was a key Carthaginian port. Roman forces besieged the city for several years, aiming to weaken Carthage's maritime power. The siege was marked by intense fighting and resource shortages for the defenders. Ultimately, Roman persistence paid off, and Lilybaeum fell in 241 BC, leading to a decisive Roman victory in the war. The capture significantly diminished Carthaginian influence in the region and set the stage for Roman dominance in the Mediterranean.
