Siege of Charleston
The Siege of Charleston (1780) was a significant event during the American Revolutionary War where British forces surrounded and blockaded the American-held city of Charleston, South Carolina. The British aimed to weaken the Patriot resistance by cutting off supplies and reinforcements. After several months of fighting and shortages of food and supplies, the city surrendered in May 1780. The siege resulted in a major British victory, giving them control over Charleston and the South Carolina coast for a time, and marked a pivotal moment in the Southern campaign of the war.
