Siege of Buda
The Siege of Buda (1686) was a major military campaign where the Habsburg-led Holy League aimed to recapture Buda (part of present-day Budapest) from the Ottoman Empire. The city, a strategic fortress, had been controlled by Ottomans for over a century. The Holy League forces surrounded Buda, cutting off supplies and bombarding its defenses. After several weeks of intense fighting, they successfully breached the walls, leading to the city's surrender. This victory marked a turning point in the struggle between the Habsburgs and Ottomans in Central Europe, restoring Habsburg control over much of Hungary.
