Siege of Belgrade

The Siege of Belgrade (1683) was a major military confrontation where the Ottoman Empire attempted to capture the strategically important city of Belgrade, which was under Hungarian and Habsburg control. Christian European forces, including the Holy League, assembled to defend the city. The Ottomans laid siege to Belgrade, but after intense fighting and an unexpected counterattack by the besiegers, the defenders managed to break the siege. This victory marked a turning point, halting Ottoman expansion into Central Europe and shifting the balance of power in favor of European allies.
