short-term memory duration

Short-term memory is like a temporary storage box for information we need to use right away. It can hold a limited amount of information, typically around seven items, for about 15 to 30 seconds. For example, when you remember a phone number just long enough to dial it, you're using short-term memory. If you don't transfer that information to long-term memory by repeating it or making connections, it’s likely to be forgotten quickly. Essentially, short-term memory helps us manage immediate tasks and interactions before information fades or is discarded.
