Shinshu lineage

The Shinshu lineage refers to a branch of the Jodo Shinshu school of Pure Land Buddhism, founded by Shinran Shonin in 13th-century Japan. This lineage emphasizes faith in Amida Buddha’s vow to save all beings, advocating that salvation is a gift received through sincere entrusting (shinjin) rather than self-powered efforts. Central practices involve reciting the Nembutsu (“Namu Amida Butsu”) with deep faith. The Shinshu lineage became widely influential, promoting accessible, heartfelt devotion, and shaping modern Japanese Pure Land Buddhist practices.
