Shiism

Shiism is a branch of Islam that believes leadership should stay within the family of the Prophet Muhammad, specifically through his descendants known as Imams. Shiites hold that these Imams are spiritual and political guides with divine authority. They emphasize loyalty to these Imams, prayer, and specific rituals, and often celebrate events like the martyrdom of Imam Husayn. Shiism coexists with Sunni Islam but differs in leadership beliefs and certain practices. It has diverse communities worldwide, especially in Iran, Iraq, and Lebanon, and plays a significant role in shaping cultural and religious life in these regions.
