Shia communities

Shia communities are groups within Islam that mainly follow the teachings of Prophet Muhammad’s family, particularly his cousin and son-in-law, Ali. They believe Ali and his descendants are the rightful leaders (Imams) of the Muslim community. This differs from Sunni Muslims, who recognize a different succession. Shia communities have distinct religious rituals, commemorations such as Ashura, and cultural practices. They are found mainly in countries like Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, and Bahrain, and often emphasize the importance of justice and martyrdom in their faith. Despite differences, both Shia and Sunni Muslims share core beliefs in God, the Quran, and Prophet Muhammad.
