Shentong

Shentong is a Tibetan Buddhist philosophical view that sees the ultimate nature of reality as inherently pure and luminous, often described as empty of inherent existence but rich in enlightened qualities. It emphasizes that all phenomena are ultimately empty of independent self-nature, yet this emptiness is not a void, but a display of profound, luminous wisdom. Shentong contrasts with other views by affirming that ultimate reality is a pure, unconditioned consciousness or wisdom, which underlies everything, and that Samsara and Nirvana are expressions of this same ultimate truth.
