Sheet Erosion
Sheet erosion is the gradual removal of thin layers of soil from a broad area, often caused by rainfall. When rain hits the ground, it dislodges soil particles, which are then washed away by flowing water. This type of erosion typically occurs over large, flat surfaces and can result in significant loss of fertile topsoil. Unlike more visible forms of erosion, such as gully erosion, sheet erosion is subtle and can go unnoticed until it has significantly impacted the landscape and agricultural productivity. Controlling sheet erosion is vital for maintaining soil health and preventing land degradation.
