Seven Principles (Nguzo Saba)
The Seven Principles, or Nguzo Saba, are core values developed by Dr. Maulana Karenga to promote unity and cultural pride within the African American community. They include Umoja (Unity), emphasizing togetherness; Kujichagulia (Self-Determination), encouraging people to define themselves; Ujima (Collective Work and Responsibility), fostering community problem-solving; Ujamaa (Cooperative Economics), supporting shared economic growth; Nia (Purpose), focusing on collective vision; Kuumba (Creativity), inspiring artistic expression and innovation; and Imani (Faith), trusting in the community's resilience and future. These principles serve as guiding ethics to strengthen identity, community bonds, and personal integrity.
