Service Academies

Service academies are institutions of higher education in the United States that train future military leaders. The five main academies are the U.S. Military Academy (Army), U.S. Naval Academy (Navy and Marine Corps), U.S. Air Force Academy, U.S. Coast Guard Academy, and U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. Students, known as cadets or midshipmen, receive a rigorous academic education alongside military training. Attendance is usually free, but graduates commit to serving in the military for a set period. These academies emphasize leadership, discipline, and dedication to service, preparing individuals for careers as officers in the armed forces.
