
Sengbe Pieh
Sengbe Pieh, also known as Joseph Cinqué, was a West African man who became a symbol of resistance during the transatlantic slave trade. In 1839, he led a revolt aboard the Spanish slave ship La Amistad, freeing himself and others imprisoned there. His leadership led to a famous legal battle that challenged the legality of the slave trade in the United States. Pieh’s actions and bravery helped bring international attention to the abolition of slavery and highlighted the human desire for freedom and justice.
