Senate procedures

Senate procedures are the rules and methods by which the U.S. Senate conducts its business. Key procedures include introducing bills, debating, amending, and voting on legislation. Senators can engage in extended debate, known as a filibuster, to delay or block decisions. A simple majority is needed to pass most legislation, but certain issues require a supermajority, like ending a filibuster (cloture). Committees play a crucial role in reviewing proposals before they reach the full Senate.
