Senate of Spain

The Senate of Spain is the upper chamber of the country's legislative branch, similar to a senate in other nations. It represents the territorial units of Spain—its regions and autonomous communities—and participates in the law-making process. Senators can propose, amend, or delay legislation and have a role in reviewing laws passed by the lower house (the Congress of Deputies). Members are elected directly by regional legislatures or by the public, depending on the region. The Senate's main purpose is to ensure regional interests are considered in national legislation, functioning as a revising chamber within Spain's parliamentary system.
