Semi-Arianism

Semi-Arianism is a Christian theological belief that emerged in the 4th century, asserting that Jesus Christ is divine but not co-eternal with God the Father. It holds that Jesus is of similar substance ("homoiousios") rather than identical ("homoousios") to the Father, as argued by Arians. This view emphasizes Jesus' divine nature but seeks to distinguish it from the Father's, balancing between full divinity and the belief that He is a created being. Semi-Arianism contributed to ongoing debates about Christ's nature, ultimately influencing the formal doctrine of the Trinity as understood in mainstream Christianity.
