Self-defense laws
Self-defense laws permit an individual to use reasonable force to protect themselves or others from imminent harm or danger. Generally, you can only use force proportional to the threat and must have a genuine belief that use of force is necessary. The law also often requires that you try to avoid conflict if possible. Some jurisdictions have "stand your ground" laws, allowing you to defend yourself without retreating. Keep in mind, self-defense claims are evaluated based on specific circumstances, such as the immediacy of threat and reasonableness of your response, making context crucial.
