Self-Conscious Emotions
Self-conscious emotions are feelings that arise from how we see ourselves in relation to others and our actions. These include guilt, shame, pride, embarrassment, and jealousy. They often involve self-evaluation and awareness of social norms or expectations. For example, feeling guilty after hurting someone or pride when accomplishing a goal. These emotions help us regulate behavior and maintain social bonds by encouraging us to act appropriately and consider others' perceptions. They are more complex than basic emotions like happiness or anger because they depend on our understanding of ourselves and social context.
