Seleucid wars

The Seleucid Wars were a series of conflicts between the Seleucid Empire, which was established after Alexander the Great's death, and various rival states, particularly the Ptolemaic Kingdom of Egypt. These wars, occurring from the late 4th to the mid-2nd centuries BCE, were driven by territorial disputes and struggles for power in the eastern Mediterranean and Near East. Significant battles included the wars over control of Syria and Palestine. Ultimately, the conflicts weakened the Seleucid Empire, leading to its decline and the rise of rival powers, including the Romans and emerging local kingdoms.
