Security housing units

Security Housing Units (SHUs) are specialized sections of prisons designed to hold inmates deemed particularly dangerous or disruptive. SHUs are intended to manage violent behavior, protect staff and other prisoners, and maintain order within the facility. Due to the severe conditions, including limited social interaction and minimal daily activities, SHUs have raised concerns about mental health impacts and the overall treatment of inmates.
