Second Barons' War

The Second Barons' War (1264-1267) was a mid-13th-century conflict in England between rebellious barons and King Henry III. The barons, unhappy with the king’s excessive taxation and centralization of power, sought to impose limits on the monarchy’s authority. Led by Simon de Montfort, they formed a coalition to challenge royal control, eventually capturing the king and establishing a short-lived government that included more representation for common people. The war concluded with de Montfort’s defeat at the Battle of Evesham, restoring royal authority but also contributing to ongoing debates about governance and the rights of Parliament.
