Sebastian (the Martyr)

Saint Sebastian is a Christian martyr traditionally associated with courage and perseverance in the face of persecution. Believed to have lived in the 3rd century, he was a Roman soldier who secretly converted to Christianity and helped fellow Christians. Arrested for his faith, he was subjected to execution by being shot with arrows, which became a prominent symbol of his martyrdom. Despite being thought dead, he survived and later confronted the emperor again, leading to his eventual execution. Saint Sebastian is often depicted in art bound to a tree or post, pierced by arrows, representing his steadfastness in faith.
