Sea Borders

Sea borders, or maritime boundaries, are divisions between different countries’ waters. These borders are important for determining a nation’s territorial sea, typically extending 12 nautical miles from the coastline, where a country has rights over resources and governance. Beyond this area, the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) usually extends up to 200 nautical miles, allowing a country to manage fishing, mineral resources, and more. Sea borders help prevent disputes over marine resources and ensure countries can protect their interests while maintaining international shipping routes and navigation.
