Science and Technology Agency (Japan)

The Science and Technology Agency (STA) of Japan was a government body established in 1956 to oversee and promote scientific research and technological development in the country. Its main roles included funding research projects, coordinating scientific initiatives, and fostering collaboration between academia and industry. The STA aimed to enhance Japan’s global competitiveness through innovation and education in science and technology. In 2001, the agency was merged into the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT), which continues to support and oversee scientific advancement in Japan.
