Schwannoma
A schwannoma is a benign (non-cancerous) tumor that develops from Schwann cells, which surround and protect nerves. It typically grows slowly and can occur anywhere in the body where there are nerve fibers, most commonly in the head, neck, or along the spinal nerves. While often painless, a schwannoma may cause symptoms like numbness, weakness, or pain if it presses on nearby nerves. Treatment usually involves surgical removal, and the prognosis is excellent, as these tumors rarely become malignant.
