Scheduled Tribes in India

Scheduled Tribes (STs) in India are indigenous communities recognized by the government for their unique cultures, traditions, and social disadvantages. They often live in remote or rural areas and historically faced economic and social marginalization. To promote their development and safeguard their rights, the Indian Constitution grants them special protections, reservations in education and employment, and focus on their welfare. There are over 700 tribal communities across India, making up about 8-9% of the population. Recognizing and supporting STs aims to ensure social equity and preserve cultural diversity within the country's pluralistic fabric.
