SCF complex
The SCF complex (Skp, Cullin, F-box containing complex) is a cellular structure that helps regulate protein levels within cells. It functions as a specialized molecular machine that tags unwanted or damaged proteins with a small message called ubiquitin. This tagging marks them for destruction by the cell’s recycling system, the proteasome. The SCF complex recognizes specific proteins through its F-box components, ensuring only targeted proteins are degraded. This process is vital for maintaining healthy cell function, controlling cell growth, and responding to changes or stress within the cell.
