Sattriya
Sattriya is a classical dance form from the Indian state of Assam, created by the 15th-century saint and scholar Srimanta Sankardev. It combines expressive movement, storytelling, and devotional themes, traditionally performed in monasteries called sattra. Originally a spiritual practice to honor Lord Vishnu, Sattriya involves graceful gestures, intricate footwork, and expressive facial movements to depict mythological stories and religious teachings. Recognized as a classical Indian dance, it emphasizes devotion, discipline, and cultural heritage, serving both as an art form and a means of spiritual connection.
