Sappho
Sappho was an ancient Greek poet from the island of Lesbos, active around 600 BCE. Renowned for her lyrical poetry, she often explored themes of love, passion, and longing, particularly in the context of female relationships. Sappho's work was highly admired in antiquity, making her one of the few female voices in early literature. Although most of her poems survive only in fragments, she has had a lasting impact on poetry and literature. The term "Sapphic" is derived from her name and is often associated with female same-sex love, reflecting her influence on both literary and LGBTQ+ history.
