Santhal Rebellion
The Santhal Rebellion was a revolt in 1855-1856 by the Santhal tribe in eastern India against British colonial authorities and local landlords. The Santhals faced exploitation through unfair land practices, high taxes, and forced labor. Frustrated by these injustices and betrayal by local intermediaries, they organized a resistance to protect their land, culture, and rights. The rebellion is significant as one of the earliest tribal uprisings against colonial rule, highlighting the struggle of indigenous communities against exploitation and oppression during British colonization.
