Santhal history

The Santhal people are an indigenous tribe primarily from eastern India and Bangladesh, with a rich history dating back centuries. They traditionally practiced agriculture, hunting, and gathering, maintaining distinct language, culture, and religious beliefs centered around nature and ancestral worship. Historically, the Santhals resisted external control and colonial rule, notably initiating the Santhal Rebellion in 1855-56 to fight exploitation by zamindars and British authorities. Despite facing displacement and hardship, they have preserved their cultural identity, languages, and traditions, playing a vital role in regional history and the cultural diversity of India.
