Sangam Period

The Sangam Period (approximately 300 BCE to 300 CE) was a significant era in ancient South India, particularly in the Tamil-speaking regions. It is marked by the flourishing of Tamil literature and the development of early Dravidian culture. During this time, three Tamil dynasties—Chola, Chera, and Pandya—thrive and trade flourishes, connecting South India with other regions. The Sangam literary works celebrated themes of love, heroism, and nature, showcasing rich poetry and philosophy. This period laid the foundation for Tamil identity and cultural heritage, influencing language, art, and social structure in the region for centuries to come.
