Samuel Slater's Mill
Samuel Slater's Mill, established in 1793 in Pawtucket, Rhode Island, was one of the first successful water-powered cotton spinning mills in the United States. Slater, an English immigrant, brought with him knowledge of textile machinery from Britain. His mill harnessed water power to drive spinning machines, significantly boosting yarn production. This innovation marked the beginning of the American Industrial Revolution, transforming the textile industry and leading to the establishment of factories. Slater's successful venture demonstrated the potential of mechanized manufacturing, which laid the groundwork for the modern industrial economy in the U.S.
