Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers
Samuel Liddell MacGregor Mathers (1854–1918) was a British occultist, translator, and influential figure in the early 20th-century esoteric movement. He is best known for his role in the Hermetic Order of the Golden Dawn, a secret society focused on magic, mysticism, and spiritual development. Mathers contributed significantly to the revival of Western occult traditions, including the study of Kabbalah and Tarot. His writings, particularly on ceremonial magic, helped shape modern occult practices. Mathers also translated important texts, making esoteric knowledge more accessible, and left a lasting impact on Western magical traditions.
