Salt glands
Salt glands are specialized structures found in some animals, such as seabirds and marine reptiles, that help regulate their salt levels. These glands actively remove excess salt from the bloodstream, enabling the animals to drink seawater without becoming dehydrated. The glands filter the salt from the blood and excrete it as a concentrated saline solution, often through openings in the mouth or nostrils. This adaptation is essential for survival in salty environments, allowing the animals to maintain proper fluid balance while feeding and drinking seawater.
