Salim Ahmed Hamdan

Salim Ahmed Hamdan is a Yemeni man known for being the first prisoner to face a military commission at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, following the September 11 attacks. He was accused of being a driver for Osama bin Laden and charged with conspiracy. His case raised important legal issues regarding the rights of detainees, the fairness of military trials, and the use of evidence obtained under coercion. In 2008, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Guantanamo detainees had the right to challenge their detention in civilian courts, influenced by Hamdan's case. He was eventually released in 2014.
