Salah Jadid was a Syrian military officer and politician who played a key role in the 1966 coup that brought the Arab Socialist Ba'ath Party to power in Syria. He served as Syria’s de facto leader during the late 1960s and early 1970s, promoting socialist and pan-Arab policies. Known for his influence within the military and government, Jadid aimed to modernize Syria’s economy and strengthen Arab unity. His leadership ended in 1970 when he was ousted and later executed in 1978 after a power struggle. Jadid's era marked significant political and military shifts in Syria's modern history.
