Sadat

Anwar Sadat was the President of Egypt from 1970 until his assassination in 1981. He is best known for shifting Egypt's economy toward a more open, capitalist model and for making peace with Israel, culminating in the historic Camp David Accords in 1978. This agreement, facilitated by U.S. President Jimmy Carter, aimed to resolve long-standing conflicts between the two nations. Sadat's peace initiative was controversial and led to significant political backlash in the Arab world. His leadership ultimately ended when he was assassinated by Islamist militants in 1981.
