Russian Peasant War
The Russian Peasant War, which began in 1773 and lasted until 1775, was a major uprising against the oppressive conditions faced by serfs and peasant communities in Russia. It was led by Yemelyan Pugachev, who claimed to be the rightful tsar, and sought to end serfdom and improve the lives of the rural population. The revolt was fueled by widespread discontent with heavy taxes, harsh treatment, and military conscription. Although the uprising was ultimately quashed by imperial forces, it highlighted the deep social and economic inequalities in Russian society, foreshadowing future revolutionary movements.
