Russia's February Revolution
The February Revolution of 1917 in Russia was a political upheaval that led to the overthrow of Tsar Nicholas II, ending centuries of imperial rule. Due to widespread dissatisfaction with war, economic hardship, and political repression, workers, soldiers, and peasants protested and went on strike. The unrest grew until the military refused to suppress it, forcing the Tsar to abdicate. A provisional government was established, marking the shift from monarchy to a temporary parliamentary system. This revolution set the stage for further unrest, eventually leading to the October Revolution and the establishment of Soviet Russia.
