Running Fence

Running Fence was a large-scale art installation created by artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude in 1976. It consisted of a 24.5-mile-long white fabric fence stretching across the hills of Sonoma and Marin counties in California. The project transformed the landscape, creating a visually striking contrast between the natural environment and the man-made structure. After being in place for just two weeks, the installation was taken down, emphasizing the transient nature of art. Running Fence aimed to engage viewers with nature and provoke thought about art, the environment, and the relationship between humans and their surroundings.
